Leader of Task Force for Semiconductor Chip Shortage

The global semiconductor chip shortage between 2020-2022 caused severe disruptions across industries, especially in the automotive sector, leading to halted production, cost hikes, and delays. Within Volkswagen Group, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India faced one of the lowest chip allocations, resulting in production stoppages at the Pune Plant.

As the leader of the task force, my objective was to secure the chip supply, find alternative solutions, and minimize production loss.

Key Highlights:

Cross-functional Collaboration: Led a high-performing team that included R&D, Purchase, Quality, Production, and HQ, working together to identify solutions and secure chip supply.

High-Frequency Meetings: Conducted daily task force meetings with HQ and alternate-day management/board-level reviews to ensure quick decision-making and alignment.

Challenge & Resolution: Despite the limited chip allocation, we managed to resume production swiftly, ensuring business continuity and meeting customer demand.

Financial Impact: Millions of Euros were saved by implementing alternative solutions, reducing reliance on the chip supply, and minimizing delivery delays.

Strategic Roadmap: Developed a strategic roadmap for infotainment systems to future-proof against similar crises, ensuring smoother operations and resilience in future supply chain disruptions.

This project was instrumental in mitigating the impact of a global crisis, allowing Volkswagen Group India to continue operations and meet customer demand despite supply chain challenges.
